I have had nothing but great experiences with DMV Appliance - and I'm usually calling at the last minute for a Saturday appointment. I've had them out three separate times to deal with a dishwasher cricuit board that went out, an electric stove with lights that would not turn off, and a washing machine that wasn't draining. Each time the service repair person (I've had two different gentlemen) were prompt, knew the appliances, and were able to come up with solutions. In one case we had to wait a week for a particular part to be ordered, but in the other two cases they had what they needed on their truck. They were not only knowledgable, but also professional and considerate. While I wish their prices were a little lower, I believe they're going rate and not at all inflated comparatively, and most importantly, there was no premium for Saturday appointment (and they've been able to accomodate me, evenlast minute). The woman who works in the office is lovely and has been very pleasant to work with. I highly recommend DMV Appliance Repair.

He identified one of the problems that another service had not fixed properly. He ordered parts and came back a few days later to install them. My refrigerator had a leak that resulted in a small kitchen flood. I needed DMV to come assess the situation, prescribe the right course of action, and perform the repair. Even though my refrigerator is a Kenmore, it's actually a rebadged LG -- due to it being a French door, bottom freezer model. Other appliance repair companies don't service LG (or other Korean manufacturers like Samsung).

It went very well. I got call from DMV in advance of the appointment. They informed me that the repair person would call 30 minutes before arriving. They accommodated my work hours and moved my window from 11-2 to 12-3PM. Shawn arrived to my home promptly. He took off his shoes (awesome) and helped me maneuver my refrigerator out of its space. He quickly went through diagnosis and ascertained that I had TWO problems: 1) The water valve had failed. It had leaked and corroded all over. 2) The water feed tube (to the dispenser and ice maker) had hardened and snapped into two pieces. Apparently, this is a common problem for LG. The cold water, coupled to the heat cycles, makes the plastic brittle. So, as the refrigerator was asking for water for dispensing or for ice (mostly), it was pouring out onto the floor. Shawn replaced both the valve and tube. The valve was NOT an OEM piece, but one from a GE refrigerator. That said, he installed it expertly and under their service warranty. The convenience of this is that I don't have to wait for the part to be delivered and schedule a follow-up (although Shawn offered that option). For parts and labor, DMV charged $189 (with $55 off included). Considering that the valve is probably a $25 part, and tubing, a couple of dollars, the price is fair, but not great. That said, I was charged $100 by DAR just to diagnose. Casually checking, the GE valve is probably a little more expensive, so that's why I say it's "fair." There was little mess made and Shawn did a great job. Overall, it was an extremely positive experience!

Starting with my first call, DMV did a great job. Tina, who answers the phone and sets appointments, was cordial and competent and was able to set up an appointment for a day and time of our choosing. Ali, who came to do the repair, was thorough and skilled. He felt the problem was caused by a part (the heater) that was malfunctioning, so he ordered the part. Upon returning with the part, he found that the existing part could be reset so we did not need to pay for the new part! How many repair people are that honest?! He told us to use the machine for a few days to be sure the current part was indeed working, and he said he wouldn't charge us that day, but would let us know how much the repair was if we found we didn't need the new part as he expected. Other than paying for the initial service call, we have not yet even been charged!
This is the second time we have used DMV and have been totally pleased with their service and talented staff. We wouldn't think of calling anyone else.

I was very apologetically told that same day was unavailable but was immediately offered service for the next day (a Sunday). Due to my schedule, I instead opted for the following Tuesday and was given a 9a -12p slot. Shan arrived prompted at 10:15 and was very cordial, even took time to affectionately greet my dog and give him a tummy rub. Our highly rated GE refrigerator is only 7 years old but stopped working this past week, evidenced by lack of coldness which resulted in frozen food defrosting and all other food becoming warm. We got an estimate from another service provider who indicated that we would have to spend hundreds of dollars on parts in addition to a service fee which would add up to enough money to question whether it was worth fixing at all. Upset at the prospect of spending so much money on a relatively new major appliance, we decided to get a second opinion. Fortunately, we called DMV Appliance Repair. The service request was on a Saturday. Shan, the technician arrived promptly at the time we were told he would arrive. He was courteous and professional. we shared with him the results of the previous assessment. Shan diagnosed our problem quickly as being far less serious than we were led to believe by the previous technician from another company. The problems stemmed for excessive dust that was clogging the system. Shan cleaned the coils and the filter and showed us how to maintain these parts so as to avoid the problem in the future. He couldn't have bee nicer or more professional and helpful. The cost was extremely reasonable and a fraction of what it would have cost us had we gone with the previous provider. We are SO grateful to this company for providing the service with integrity. We would use DMV again and recommend to others. I would request Shan again to repair or service our appliances. DMV answered the phone on Saturday, in itself a small miracle, and promptly scheduled an appointment between 1 and 4pm on MLK day. I was not able to meet Sam, but the tenant was there. Sam replaced the part and all was good, tenant was happy. Extra marks for being able to schedule an appt on Saturday and also for promptness. Foreign brand appliances can be difficult to find parts and repair, i.e., expensive, and I consider DMV charges, coupled w/ their responsiveness and speed, more than reasonable.

They did in fact come the same day (on a snowy day) - Ali, our technician was in the area and able to stop by. He took his shoes off when he entered so as not to make a mess. He was AMAZING, fast, and thorough. He immediately diagnosed the problem as a broken heating element and showed me where it had burned through. He replaced the part and cleaned out the dryer vent, tubing, and back of dryer from all lint. He even walked in the snow around to the back of the house to check the outside of the dryer vent to be sure it was all clear. When I asked if he could leave the dryer out so I could sweep behind the dryer, he said he would sweep up (and he did). I will definitely call again.

I called DMV for help, after I had done everything I could think of to fix our washing machine, to include swapping out the water automatic pressure switch (APS, cost - $130), given the error code I was getting. The DMV dispatcher, Tina, was very helpful and responsive. The repairman, Ali, arrived that evening, after battling his way through DC traffic. He spent the next 2.5 hours troubleshooting the machine with every trick in the book, but still couldn't clear the error code and get the machine functioning properly. He worked to clear the drain line, the likely culprit, and concluded that the problem might be a malfunctioning drain pump. Ali had to wait more than a week for the new pump to arrive from Whirlpool, and came back out with it. After conferring with tech support, and assuring them that I had already swapped out the APS (which was working properly), he tried a few more procedures to clear the lines. This time, in a visit lasting more than an hour, he was able to clear the error code, and our washer is now working like a dream. In fact, I wish that I had called him first before replacing the APS, as it didn't need replacement--and I wasted $130. The total cost for the two visits (3.5 hours work) was $159--not bad at all! DMV, Ali, and Tina get our highest commendation!

The technician was on-time and called prior to his arrival to let me know he was on his way. When he arrived, he was quickly able to assess the damage to the dishwasher and told me that the estimate would be ready the following day. I received a call the following day as he stated I would. The dispatcher was extremely helpful and faxed required documentation to my insurance company. Due to the insurance company's decision to replace the entire dishwasher, instead of fixing it, I ended up not using DMV's repair services, however, I expect to call them again, if I ever require such services.

After determining the problem and ordering the part, I was contacted about the repair. This took just a few days and it was over a holiday weekend. Dina (sp?) on the phone is always extremely courteous, and does her best to schedule repairs for us as soon as possible every time. Great service. I was given a 2 hour window on a Sunday afternoon after calling at 9am. Ali called when he left his last job so I knew he was on his way. I think he was here less than 1.5 hours. He had no problem taking things apart, gaining access to the components in the back of the freezer, identifying the broken part, replacing it, defrosting the unit, testing and getting things back together. I was impressed because he used a heater and a steamer to defrost the coils. I just assumed a heat gun would be good enough but he explained why the steamer was needed around the plastic. Ali also answered tons of questions from a certain 5 year old who was ssooo curious and couldn't take his eyes off him. Very friendly and knowledgeable. When asked about what training, he said he goes to a refresher training every 6 months to stay on top of the new models, components and issues. $269 (after $55 coupon) seems high for replacing such a small part, but it was a lot of work to get in there, trouble shoot, and get it all back together. He has to bring all sorts of parts/tools/supplies provide 90 day parts and labor warranty, etc. The part he replaced is pretty cheap, but with his time, skills and professionalism... I wish it was cheaper, but I really can't complain. Not sure what other places charged. Great service, communication and very friendly. I can see why DMV is so well rated and I'll definitely use them again for any future work.

My refrigerator/freezer stopped working late on a Thursday evening. We immediately made a service appointment with GE, but they couldn't come until Tuesday. Since we didn't want to lose all our food, the next morning I began calling appliance repair services. DMV Appliance Repair was the only one willing to send someone that day and they offered an Angie's List discount. Tina, the office dispatcher was so kind and helpful. She reassured me, that the the technician would have most parts needed to fix my fridge that day. She also gave me an estimated time of arrival, checked back in with me later in the day to update me, and instructed the technician to wait if I happened to be picking my kids up from the bus stop when he arrived. Ali, arrived right when the dispatcher said he would. He was extremely professional and nice to work with. He took my fridge apart to check for any possible problems and put it all back together the way he found it. He offered his diagnosis and solution and provided a 30 day warranty in case it ended up being the more expensive and less likely possible issue. So far, everything is working properly. I called DMV in the late evening on Wednesday because their webpage said they were open until 11pm! I spoke to the nicest lady who listened to my tale of woe about a warm refrigerator and schedule in their SubZero technician for the very next day. Sam came promptly and easily diagnosed the problem as low coolant. He refilled the coolant, cleaned the coils and the air intake, and, voila!, the fridge works like new. We had been living with the under-performing fridge for a year, after having Bray and Scarf out to fix it, only to be told that the air intake screen was hopelessly bent up (from vacuuming it in a vain attempt to perk up the machine) and that we'd have to buy a new fridge (no self-interest there, right?). They said nary a word about low coolant, I guess because that would have fixed the problem and kept us from buying a new machine from them. Discouraged, we put that off until the recent hot weather made the non-cooling fridge a menace to our health. How glad we are to have had Angie's List to turn to and to have the list lead us to DMV. We couldn't agree more with the reviews that say they wish one could give more than five stars to this company. Sam was great-- really knew his stuff and wouldn't even take payment until the machine had run well for a few days. I will only, ever use DMV for appliance repairs again. I found DMV Appliance Repair on Craigslist, and they had great ratings and a coupon, so I called. It went great! I called in the morning on Friday July 5, never expecting to get an appointment right away because my situation wasn't an emergency and it was the Friday after the July 4th holiday. Nonetheless, the woman on the phone was extremely friendly and arranged for Ali to come out late that same afternoon. Ali was very polite and set to work immediately. He diagnosed the problem quickly -- neither the refrigerator or freezer sections were cooling -- and said he didn't have the part on the truck with him. He said he would come back the next day except he didn't know if he could get the part. He said they had the part at the office but the office wouldn't be open on Saturday and he could try to call around to see if he could get the part from a supplier on Saturday but didn't know how successful he would be. He asked if it would be ok to come back on Monday because I wasn't in a hurry. I said yes at first but then realized no one would be home so I said it would have to be Tuesday. After I said that, he offered to go by the office after he finished his last job that day so he could get the part and come back Saturday. I couldn't believe it! He went out of his way to finish the job even though I wasn't in a hurry. He said he'd probably be able to come back at about 11:00, and he was here before 11:30. Again he set about to work quickly and before long everything was working again as it should! I will also add that I am a woman who was at home alone with my elderly mother when Ali came, and though I am always cautious about letting folks I don't know into my home, the woman who took my call was understanding when I asked for the name of the person that would be coming to my house, and I felt very comfortable with Ali. The repairman called to let me know he was on his way and arrived promptly. In addition to replacing the belt that was the source of the problem, he offered to fix the lint trap because the wire had separated from the frame on both sides. He used some metal tape to repair it and did not charge me for doing so. He was very pleasant and polite. The replacement of the belt cost $174.00 dollars. Since I didn't get estimates from any other companies, I don't know if that was reasonable or not. I would definitely recommend this company based on availability and service.

The lady there gave me a window of time from 10 to 1 and she told me that the technician would call me half an hour before he arrived. The technician called me at 10:45 and he arrived at my house in about 45 minutes . He checked my refrigerator and he told me the Freon was low so he gave me the estimate which was very reasonable. Then he fixed the refrigerator. I was satisfied with his work so I told him that my Bosch dishwasher had not been working for the past month. He told me that he also works on Bosch appliances. He checked my dishwasher and told me that the water valve was bad and that's why water was not coming inside the dishwasher. He gave me the estimate and then he replaced the water valve. Now my dishwasher and refrigerator are working fine. I am happy with his services and both things cost me only $485. I already used this company before and I was satisfied with their services. My fridge started smelling inside -- an electrical burning smell. This happened on a Saturday afternoon, right after I had come home with a lot of groceries ($$$). The smell was ruining the food, and I was afraid the motor was dying. I shut the fridge off, because I was afraid of fire! I was desperate for help, but most places are not open on Saturday afternoons! DMV was like a godsend! Ali came over that night, even though it was after 7pm! When we turned the fridge back on, he checked everything. He thought the motor may be going, but the smell had dissipated and the fridge was cooling correctly. He cleaned up a few things, and charged me a nominal fee. He said he did not want to fix it if it was not broken, and said he would come out again for free and fix it if it did die. Ali called us 2 days later to see if the fridge was working okay, and it was. I think I just overfilled the freezer way too much! It's running like a champ. I could not believe the service offered by DMV -- above and beyond.
